Project Find a House to Rent: Done!

Hi all.

Well the title gives it away, but I'm mindful of the fact that I haven't blogged in a while and I would hate to think any of you lovely readers might be worried about whether we have a roof over our heads.

It's okay. Roof located.

This is a pretty cool looking roof.
Ours is nothing like this.

The day contracts exchanged for the sale of our house, I was on a mission. MissyMoo2 (4), MissyMoo3 (2) and I went to three real estate agents in our local area searching for a place to rent. Taking them with me was a risky move, but they wowed real estate offices all over town with their good behaviour :-)

The experience, though, was quite stressful. It was demoralising, seeing places online which might be suitable, only to find out that they had just been taken by somebody else. It was unsettling having lived in our own place for seven years to then be in the position of wondering where we would be living in only a matter of weeks. It was almost enough to bring about some seller's remorse ... almost...

I looked through one completely unsuitable place after school one day with all three Missy Moos. It was only 3 bedrooms, which of itself wasn't too much of a problem, except that the current inhabitant was a heavy smoker and had two little dogs who slept inside. Not so good for allergies. Oh, and no dishwasher. In a family of five? Deal-breaker.

Next, I looked through a pretty good place. Fairly nice, again three bedrooms, but quite liveable except that it was built on a cliff. I kid you not. It was well landscaped at the back, but I did not fancy attempting to get the white bus up the steep driveway...

There was one more. One shining light in the darkness.

One 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 2 car garage house which appeared on the internet like a vision. I could be forgiven for imagining hearing a chorus of angels at the moment the photos appeared on my computer monitor. It is less than 500m from where we currently live. It is the same distance again from where we intend to build our next home (oops, spoiler alert!). MissyMoo1 (6) does not even have to change bus stops! Our application has been accepted, we sign the lease next week and we'll have a bit over two weeks to slowly move our stuff over to the new place before we have to be out of our current house.

It is not all perfect, as with most things, there are some sacrifices to be made. This really requires a blog post all of its own, though. Stay tuned.

"Relief" is the most suitable word to describe reaching the end of this small chapter in our "forever house" story.

  2. So glad you found something suitable. We were house hunting for 7hrs yesterday - I had a splitting headache by the time we got home and was totally over it !
We are still trying to decide - sell and have the cash to buy but what if we can't find what we want then we would want to stay where we are, buy and then sell with bridging finance - but what if we can't sell ? Decisions decisions - I said to A (very unusual for me) let's just be positive, sell the house and 'know' that the right house will be there for us - he wasn't so sure !!!!
Good luck with the move - take care !
